Without question, it’s way too early in Season 30 of the WNBA season to write off any team. For the Seattle Storm, the expectations are all about rebuilding. Following the season opening loss to the Golden State Valkyries, Seattle picked up win No. 1 versus the Connecticut Sun on May 10. It marked the first of three consecutive road games.
Seattle Vs. Toronto (May 13)
Last Wednesday, the Storm headed to Canada to face the newest expansion team in the Toronto Tempo. The first half saw Seattle hold a 45 – 44 lead at halftime against Toronto. However, the Tempo found its groove in the second half, outscoring the Storm by a 42 – 28 margin. Toronto got the first win in their franchise history over Seattle with the score of 86 – 73.
Here, Dominique Malonga, Stefanie Dolson, and Jade Melbourne accounted for 51 of the Storm’s 73 points. First, Malonga led the scoring with 21 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Next, Dolson scored 16 points as the center went six-of-eight from the field. Lastly, Melbourne put up 14 points along with six assists.

Looking at the Tempo, Marina Mabrey made six three-pointers as she led the way with 26 points. Brittney Sykes scored 18 points along with eight boards, and six assists in the win. Also, Marie Conde shot well beyond the arc as she drained four, scoring 16 points and getting eight rebounds. Additionally, rookie Kiki Rice had 12 points.
Seattle Vs. Indiana (May 17)
Finally, the Storm concluded their three-game road trip versus the Indiana Fever on Sunday. In the first half, Seattle found themselves at an 11-point deficit as Indiana took a 55 – 44 lead. Despite matching the Fever on the scoreboard in the second half at 34 points, the Storm suffered a 89 – 78 loss.
It’s important to note the team was without Malonga in this matchup as she was in concussion protocol. Natisha Hiedeman scored a team-high 19 points as rookie Flau’jae Johnson contributed 14 points and six boards. Zia Cooke put up 13 points and Melbourne and 12 points.
