Season Three of AU Basketball Kicks Off in the Lone Star State

All things considered, AU Basketball brings out the best of the best in the sport. Season Three of the league begins tonight in Dallas, Texas at the Fair Park Coliseum. Overall, this season’s roster features 25 returning players, including 15 players who are in their third season. The roster also includes players from 31 different schools as four former players each are from South Carolina and Tennessee.

Of the top 10 leaders on the leaderboard from last season, six have returned. This includes WNBA stars Odyssey Sims and Allisha Gray. Sims is tops on the list amongst returning players with 6,383 points and was third last season in the category. Gray trailed Sims by 635 points with 5,748 points on last season’s leaderboard.

Game One of the 2024 AU Basketball season doubleheader will feature Gray’s team against Team Hull, led by Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull. Hull placed eighth in the 2023 season with 5,411 points.

Game Two of the doubleheader is between two AU Basketball greats

Game Two of the doubleheader will see arguably two of the best players in the league’s young history face off. Team Sims will battle Team Mitchell, led by Kelsey Mitchell of the Fever.

First, Sims league topped AU Basketball last season as she averaged 26.1 points per game and made history by becoming the first player to reach 700 points. Sims is a team captain for the eighth time in her three-year Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball career, the most all-time. However, Mitchell will likely find herself in the record books as she closes in on 10K points in her Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball career.

It is important to note that all four team captains in the opening weekend will be from the guard position. This is just the second time in the league’s history that all four captains are from the same position on the court. After 24 games, a new champion will be crowned in AU Basketball as it is anyone’s guess at this point.

How to watch the AU Basketball season opener and beyond

Both matchups will stream live via the WNBA App. The first game will air on the Bally Sports group of regional sports networks, Game Two will air live locally in Dallas on KTXA-TV (Channel 21). Throughout the season, 18 games can be viewed live for free on the WNBA App.
