Strong Efforts Stand Out in Series Three of the AUSL Cup

Without question, the AUSL Cup has seen the most talented softball players deliver at the plate, in the circle, and with the glove. That being said, the leaderboard has reflected such talent as the AUSL Cup is nearing its crescendo.

Here, Sam Landry was the lone position pitcher as captain. Catcher Sharlize Palacios and infielder Baylee Klingler were the other captains of the series. Now, here is a recap of Series Three from Rosemont, Illinois.

Team Palacios Vs. Team Landry

Looking at this game, the softball did not stay in the Parkway Bank Sports Complex. For Team Landry, their first five runs came via the home run. Firstly, Sydney Stewart started off with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning.

What’s more, Megan Grant, Sydney Sherrill, and Alyssa Brito each hit solo homers in the third inning. Landry’s team closed the offense with an RBI by Bella Dayton. However, Team Palacios responded with a Bubba Nickles-Camarena solo homer in the top of the fourth. Also, Sami Willams added an RBI in the fifth inning and Aubrey Leach with an RBI double in the seventh inning.

Ultimately, Team Landry would get the 6 – 3 win over Team Palacios. Stewart took home MVP 1 Honors with her two-RBI performance. MVP 2 Honors went to Landry as she allowed two hits, an earned run, and struck out four in four innings of work.

Despite the loss, pitcher Kenzie Brown garnered MVP 3 Honors for Team Palacios. Brown went three-and-two-thirds innings, allowing a hit while striking out four. Finally, the Defensive MVP Honors went to infielder Kenleigh Cahalan of Team Landry.

Team Landry Vs. Team Klingler

Unlike the opening game of Series Three, the runs were at a premium between these squads. Yet, the similarity was the home run. After six scoreless innings, Grant slammed another homer in this series in the top of the seventh for the 1-0 Team Landry lead. In this case, Team Klingler had a chance to walk-off in the bottom of the inning.

Klingler stepped up to the plate as Ailana Agbayani stood on second base with two outs. The captain came up clutch as Klingler hit a game-winning two-run homer to center field for the 2 – 1 victory.

To the surprise of few, Klingler got MVP 1 Honors as teammate Megan Faraimo was the MVP 2. Faraimo tossed five shutout innings, allowing a pair of hits with seven strikeouts. Grant took home MVP 3 Honors as Sherrill won Defensive MVP.

Team Klingler Vs. Team Palacios

All things considered, the bats in this contest were non-existent with just four combined hits. The offense came from Klinger via a sacrifice fly RBI in the top of the first inning. In the end, Team Klingler went undefeated in the series following the 1-0 victory over Team Palacios.

Pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl won MVP 1 Honors as she went four innings, allowing a hit with four strikeouts for Team Klingler. Additionally, Amber Fiser, garnered MVP 2 Honors for Team Klingler as threw three innings while allowing a hit with three strikeouts.

Once again, Brown was given MVP 3 Honors in defeat. She went the distance while striking out three and allowing two hits. Finally, Reese Atwood was the Defensive MVP.

Series Four AUSL Cup Captains

In the final series of the AUSL Cup, Klingler will be at the helm for third series as Kilfoyl and Hannah Flippen will be first-time captains. It is important to note Klingler holds a 24-point lead over Kilfoyl as Flippen is still within striking distance.
