AU Basketball and its Uncontrollable Scoring in Week Two

Without question, AU Basketball is giving fans players to root for as the halfway point of the season is near. For starters, eight players currently have at least 2,000 total points and two stars with over 200 MVP points. Those two players are captains in Week Two in guard Odyssey Sims and forward NaLyssa Smith. That being said, here are the recaps for Games Nine and Ten.

Game Nine: Naz Hillmon dominates as team captain in the win over Team Harrison

To begin, forward Naz Hillmon chose to put her team on her back, scoring 33 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Also, she shot an incredible 78.9% from the field versus Isabelle (Izzy) Harrison’s team. In all, her 834 leaderboard points surpassed the previous AU Basketball single-game record of 790 points.

Hillmon got help from guard Allisha Gray and forward Theresa Plaisance as Gray scored 18 while Plaisance had 13. In the loss, Harrison’s squad had five players scoring in double figures, led by forward Jasmine Walker with 17 points. Harrison and guard Natasha Cloud each had 16 points.

In addition, guard Courtney Willams had 13 points, 11 boards, and six assists for Team Harrison.

Game Ten: Sims guides her team to a close victory over Smith’s squad

In this matchup, it was the duo of Sims and guard Jordin Canada that paid off against Team Smith. Sims had 21 points, nine dimes, and eight rebounds while Canada added 25 points, eight boards, and five assists. As the third quarter came to a close, Canada drained a buzzer-beating shot from midcourt, the first of the AU Basketball season.

Smith put up her fifth double-double of the season with her 20 points and 12 rebound- performance in defeat. Kelsey Mitchell was Smith’s partner in scoring as she led the squad with 27 points, her 16th straight double-digit scoring effort.
