A Dominant Start to Week Two in AU Softball

Currently, Season Three of AU Softball gave us great moments in Week One and we shift to Week Two. We saw some standout pitching efforts and, as expected, the bats came out in a big way. Also, it felt like some players picked up from where they left off in Week One. That being said, let’s look at Games Seven and Eight of AU Softball Season Three.

Game Seven: Team Mulipola Surges Late in 6-4 Win Over Team Jaquish

To begin, we had homers by both teams in their respective halves of the first inning. First, Dejah Mulipola’s squad got on the board with a solo shot by outfielder Haylie McCleney to left field. Next, outfielder Bubba Nickles hit a two-run homer for Sahvanna Jaquish’s team to give them an early lead. Moving to the third, infielder Amanda Chidester gave Team Muilpola a 3-2 lead with a two-run home run. However, Jaquish’s squad tied it up with a blast off the bat of catcher Gwen Svekis in the fourth inning.

Eventually, Mulipola’s team pulled away in the fifth, tallying three runs in the inning. In the case, Chidester, shortstop Sis Bates, and infielder Sam Fischer each had an RBI to take a 6-3 lead. Despite a homer by shortstop Hannah Flippen for Team Jaquish in the seventh, it wasn’t enough.

As for game MVPs, Chidester and McCleney were the MVP 1 and MVP 2, respectively. Infielder Aubrey Leach took home MVP 3 honors with her two-hit effort for Team Mulipola.

Game Eight: Team Eberle Dominates in the Circle Over Team Harshman in a 5-1 Victory

While Game Seven was about the offense, Carrie Eberle’s squad used pitching to lead the way. The lone run for Kelsey Harshman’s team came from an RBI single by Tori Vidales in the first inning. In that same inning, Eberle’s squad got a two-run homer from the bat of Anissa Urtez. Afterward, Team Eberle got an RBI single by Shannon Rhodes in the sixth inning and RBIs by Urtez and Victoria Hayward in the seventh.

Looking at Eberle’s effort in the circle, she went six innings, allowing one run on four hits, and striking out three. It is important to note that Eberle tossing six innings is the most by a pitcher this season. Unquestionably, the right-hander was the MVP 1 of the game, Urtez MVP 2, and Hayward the MVP 3.
