A Stellar Offense Captivates in AU Softball

Undoubtedly, if you love offense, then day three of AU Softball was your day. In this case, we saw a combined 20 runs and 39 hits on day three. Also, we saw some standout individual performances. Let’s jump into games five and six of AU Softball Season Three without further ado.

Game Five: Team Zerkle Zips Past Team Eberle 9-3

In truth, this game was all about the offensive clinic put on by infielder Savannah Jaquish. First, she slammed a two-run homer to left field in the first inning to put Morgan Zerkle’s squad up 2-0. Next, the former LSU Tiger hit another homer in the third inning and followed it up with an RBI triple in the fourth. Overall, her 11 total bases in the game are the most in AU Softball history. She was undoubtedly the game’s MVP 1 for her record-breaking day at the plate.

Zerkle added a homer, and infielder Hannah Busby hit an RBI double in the third to add to the offense. In addition, catcher Dejah Mulipola hit a homer to straightaway center field in the fourth inning. Mulipola earned MVP 2 honors while pitcher Alyssa Denham garnered MVP 3 honors. The right-hander pitched three innings, allowing just one hit with a strikeout.

For Carrie Eberle’s team, shortstop Hannah Flippen and infielder Kelsey Harshman each hit an RBI single in the first inning. Flippen got another RBI in the second to knock in Team Eberle’s third and final run of the game.

Game Six: Team Ocasio Gets Close 5-3 Victory Over Team Chidester

Analogous to game five, there was also offense in this game but a more back-and-forth style. To begin, outfielder Shannon Rhodes hit a two-run homer for Aleshia Ocasio’s squad in the first inning. However, Amanda Chidester’s squad put up three runs in third, which all came off the bat of outfielder Bubba Nickles. She hit a three-run homer to put Chidester’s team up 3-2.

In the end, Ocasio’s team pulled away with three runs of their own in the fifth inning. Designated player Tori Vidales, catcher Gwen Svekis, and infielder Danielle Gibson each hit an RBI single in the inning. Rhodes was the game’s MVP 1, while Ocasio took home MVP 2 honors for her three innings in the circle. Nickles earned MVP 3 honors for her performance in the game.

Team Captains for Week Two of AU Softball

As a result of Week One, we have three new captains entering Week Two in Jaquish, Mulipola, and Harshman. The lone rollover captain is Eberle.

Another exciting week of AU Softball on the ESPN family of networks should come your way.
