WNBA Players of The Week Awards Week One

player of the week

Earlier today, the WNBA announced that Breanna Stewart and Myisha Hines-Allen were awarded Players of the Week Awards after the first week of the bubble season. Let’s take a look at how these two have stepped up loud for Seattle and Washington, respectively.

Stewie Is Back Better Than Ever!

Seattle Storm Forward Breanna Stewart has won The Player of the Week award in the Western Conference after leading Seattle to a 3-1 start. The 2018 WNBA League MVP is averaging 18.0 PPG (with a field goal percentage of 47.1 percent), 9.3 RPG, 3.3 APG, and 2.8 steals per game.

Stewart also came back to play for Seattle for the first time since the 2018 season, where the Storm won its third championship in franchise history. She also missed the 2019 season due to suffering a torn Achilles while playing overseas. Now Stewart, a four-time NCAA champion for UConn, is back stronger than ever after suffering one of the worst injuries in basketball.

On July 25, Stewart led Seattle to a victory over New York, totaling 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals. In the next game vs. Minnesota, she had her first double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists in the win. Also, Stewart stepped up big on defense with 3 steals and 2 blocked shots. Then, in a matchup vs. the Mystics, the Storm lost their first game of the season.

Meanwhile, Stewart had a double-double for a second consecutive game with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Finally, in a match vs. LA, she prevented the comeback of the Sparks in a thrilling victory for Seattle with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Man, Stewart is hungry for another MVP award and a WNBA Championship!

This Season Is All About Opportunity For Hines-Allen

Myisha Hines-Allen, a 2019 WNBA Champion, wins her first-ever WNBA Player of the Week award in the Eastern Conference in her career. She has been contributing to the Mystics in the starting lineup this season, moderating a career-high 17.5 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 2.8 APG, and 2.0 SPG. Hines-Allen, who was selected 19th out of Louisville in 2018 WNBA Draft, led Washington, who are without Delle Donne, Cloud, and Charles, to a 3-1 start. Besides, she has a field goal percentage of 54.7 % this season so far.

On the season opener vs. Indiana, Hines-Allen had a stellar career game, reaching a career-high in points scored with 27. She also had a double-double with 10 rebounds in a dominating win over Indiana. In the Mystics’ next game vs. Connecticut, Hines-Allen stepped up loud for Washington once again with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Then, in a game vs. Seattle, she once again strengthens Washington with an unbeaten 3-0 record with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. In a close fight vs. Chicago, Hines-Allen recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. She will continue to become one of the XFactor for the Mystics in the upcoming games.
