WNBA All-Star Roster: Exciting picks and unexpected snubs

The WNBA All-Star Roster: Exciting picks and unexpected snubs. Today, the WNBA officially released the starters for this year’s All-Star game. Let’s break down who I love on the list, who I am surprised to see on this list, and who may have been snubbed.

Starters —I love

I love that Aliyah Boston, Satou Sabally, and Chelsea Gray are on this list. Last year, Gray was on the snub list for many people, myself included. Sabally is back from injury, averaging nearly a double-double with 18.6 points and 9.9 rebounds. Gray, better known as the “Point Gawd,” is a menace with the ball. Therefore, I am excited to see her passing to her elite all-stars next month. Boston has had an amazing rookie season, with double-doubles left and right. It’s a theme she is carrying over from her college game.

Starters —I’m surprised to see

Like most of you, I have been watching the early numbers each week when the WNBA posts them. So, I’m not actually surprised by the list. However, I am surprised that Brittney Griner was not given honorary status for this year. While I agree that Nneka Ogwumike is an All-Star, I thought she would be a reserve rather than a starter.

Starters— that were snubbed

Alyssa Thomas is now the all-time leader for the most career triple-doubles!

Alyssa Thomas, Alyssa Thomas, Alyssa Thomas. Okay, I may have a slight bias here, but let’s take a closer look at her numbers, which make a compelling case for her inclusion as an All-Star starter. Not only can Thomas seamlessly transition between all five positions on the court, but she has also come very close to recording triple-doubles on multiple occasions this season.

Be sure to let us know in the comment section who you love on the list or who you think may have been snubbed. Mark your calendars for the much-anticipated 2023 All-Star Game, set to be held in Las Vegas on July 15. The game will be broadcasted on ABC at 8 pm EST, so make sure you tune in to witness the awesomeness of these All-Stars. Feel free to enjoy all Beyond Women’s Sports content.
