Takeaways From the Sky and Liberty Game

Sky Liberty

The Chicago Sky beat the New York Liberty 101 to 85 on Thursday night, Chicago used hot shooting to win their ninth game of the season. The Sky shot 52% from the field and 47.8 % from beyond the arc.

Balanced Scoring

Azura` Stevens led the way with a season-high 25 points on 10-18 shooting from the field, while also adding 3 three-pointers. Stevens has been outstanding for Chicago this season; she was one of five players in double figures for the Sky. Allie Quigley added 19, Courtney Vandersloot had 19, Kahleah Copper added 14, and Ruthe Hebard added 11 points off the bench.

Chicago does a great job of moving the ball on offense. Vandersloot runs the point, and she dished out ten assists in the game against the Liberty. Quigley also added five to assist herself.

Three-Point Shooting

Chicago made 11-23 three-point shots, Stevens and Quigley made three apiece, and Copper added. With Sky’s excellent ball movement and player movement, it leads to a lot of open shots. Coach James Wade does a great job at drawing up plays, and Chicago goes out and executes them very well.

New York Liberty

New York played better in the game against Chicago than they did against the Seattle Storm when they lost 41 points. Liberty did an excellent job getting to the free-throw line and converting it to points. New York shot 22-23 from the charity stripe. What hurt the Liberty in the game was their three-point shooting, they only shot 3-19 from three in the game. New York got outscored 33-9 on three point-scoring.

The one bright spot for the Liberty rookie Jazmine Jones scored 18 points on 7-14 shooting from the field. Jones has come along nicely as the season goes on. She is a good defender, and her offense is coming together well.

Game Notes:

Stefanie Dolson was a force inside on the defensive end, adding four blocked shots. Vandersloot was dishing assist, but she also was stealing the ball on defense; she had four steals.
