PHF: More Signings And Front Office Moves

Over the last few days, the PHF has again been busy with both player signings and a member of a team’s front office getting an amazing promotion. So, who do we have to look forward to seeing in a PHF sweater for season 8? Who is on the move and continuing to make their mark on the game? Let’s hop in and take a look to see.

The Beauts Go Maud-ern

On Friday, the Buffalo Beauts announced that former Merrimack captain Courtney Maud was signed to a one-year PHF deal. The 22-year-old forward heads to Buffalo after finishing her fifth season with Merrimack. In 145 games with the school, Maud tallied 42 points (19 goals, 23 assists) and 90 penalty minutes.

Maud will be joining a few familiar faces with the Beauts, former Merrimack teammates Dominique Kremer and Mikyla Grant-Mentis. She is a fantastic depth addition for the Beauts, with speed and grit to boot. Maud had a message for the Fort Beaut fans after her signing was announced:

Riveters Add Goal Scoring and Defense to the Lineup

Sarah Bujold

The Riveters announced the signings of two more players to their first PHF contracts. First, announcing the signing of goal-scoring forward Sarah Bujold. Bujold spent the last three seasons playing in the SDHL with Djurgårdens IF and HV71. In 97 games in the SDHL, she posted an impressive 85 points (47 goals, 38 assists. This offensive powerhouse will be a welcomed addition alongside Madison Packer and Kendall Cornine.

Ebba Berglund

The Riveters added another first-year PHF signing with the addition of defender Ebba Berglund, also from HV71 of the SDHL. The Swedish Olympian makes her PHF debut after six seasons with the SDHL, playing one season with MODO Hockey, one with Linköping HC, three with Luleå HF, and one with HV71.

Berglund is truly a shutdown defender with impressive stats to go along with that role. In 200 games in the SDHL, she only has 49 points; however, her plus/minus stats show a different story. In six seasons, she has only had a negative rating twice. Every other season, it was a double-digit positive rating for this blueliner. She is the first defender signed for the 2022-2023 season, but I expect the Riveters will be adding more defensive depth alongside her during this rebuild. Be on the lookout for more defensive signings for them, both PHF veterans and first-timers alike.

Whitecaps Bid Adieu to Their GM

Today it was announced that the longtime General Manager and Co-Founder of the Minnesota Whitecaps will be leaving the team. Jack Brodt has been a staple of the Minnesota women’s hockey movement for almost two decades. For the last 18 years, Brodt has been a champion for the sport, and that is not expected to change with his new role.

The position he has accepted is with NLTT Hockey. If that name sounds familiar, it should. NLTT Hockey Ventures is the company that owns the Minnesota Whitecaps and Buffalo Beauts. This move shows that Jack is as committed as he has always been to the growth of the game we love so much.

Still, no signings were announced by the Boston Pride, Connecticut Whale, or Minnesota Whitecaps. Which team will be the first to break the proverbial cone of signing silence? I am doing my best to influence that decision.
