Mystics vs. Sun Recap in Bradenton

Mystics Vs. Sun

The matchup between Mystics vs. Sun seems to be a close game in the first game on Tuesday night games! The Washington Mystics took a thrilling victory over the Sun with a final score of 94-89. Here is the breakdown of the teams on how they played throughout this game. This game is also a rematch of the 2019 WNBA Finals, which the Mystics won in five games over the Sun.

Washington Mystics Never Give Up!

The Washington Mystics began the season with a 2-0 record, although they do not have Elena Delle Donne, Natasha Cloud, and Tina Charles. Mystics’ Aerial Powers scored a career-high 27 points (3-pt FG 4-6), four rebounds, and three assists in the win. Boy, oh boy, she is dangerous on both ends of the court! Myisha Hines-Allen, who had a stellar career game this past Saturday, tallied 16 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Ariel Atkins, a member of the 2018 WNBA All-rookie team, stepped up her A-game with 16 points, two rebounds and steals, and three assists. Emma Meesseman, the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP, collected 12 points, six rebounds, and a career-best tying eight assists. The Mystics went on a 13-0 run in the first four minutes of the third quarter vs. the Sun, leading to a thrilling win.

Mike Thibault’s coaching system seems to have a mindset of winning championships as the Mystics won its first-ever WNBA Championship last season after a dominant regular season. The starters of the Mystics appear to be confident on both offense and defense sides of the game! The defending champions are on a roll in this bubble season!

The Sun Need To Step Up

Mystics vs. Sun

Connecticut appears to be in a tough situation as they are missing Courtney Williams, who was traded to Atlanta this off-season, and Jonquel Jones, who opted out of this season. The Sun were a win away from a championship vs. the Mystics last season. They also have 18 one-day rests between the games this shortened season.

DeWanna Bonner and Alyssa Thomas scored a combined 57 points in a loss. They also played pretty much the whole game; Bonner played for 40 minutes while Thomas played for 38 minutes. Besides, Alyssa Thomas also had a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Natisha Hiedeman, who stepped up as a backup point guard last season, collected eight points and four rebounds as she got in foul trouble. In the fourth quarter of the Mystics vs. Sun game, the Sun attempted to comeback to win the game but lost by five points.

WNBA Milestones

DeWanna Bonner became one of the six active players with 400 career steals, collecting two steals in this matchup. Jacki Gemelos appeared in a WNBA game for the first time since 2015, tallying six points (two 3-pt FGs) and a rebound with an +/- of +8.
