When the Dallas Wings signed Jessica Shepard during the offseason, they expected her to bring toughness, rebounding, and veteran leadership. Through the opening weeks of the 2026 WNBA season, she has delivered far more than that.
Shepard has emerged as one of the league’s most productive all-around players. Her ability to score, rebound, facilitate, and defend has helped transform the Wings into one of the WNBA’s early surprises. Dallas is currently 5-3 after eight games.
Filling the Stat Sheet Every Night
Few players impact games in as many ways as Shepard. She recorded the first triple-double of the 2026 WNBA season in a victory over the Chicago Sky, finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists.
She followed that performance with an even more historic outing against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces. Shepard exploded for 22 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists, becoming just the second player in WNBA history to post a 20-20 triple-double.
Whether the Wings need scoring, rebounding, or playmaking, Shepard consistently provides it.
The Engine of Dallas’ Frontcourt
Shepard’s impact extends beyond the box score. Her rebounding has helped Dallas control games, while her passing creates opportunities for teammates throughout the offense. Against Washington, she grabbed 16 rebounds while helping anchor a defensive effort that shut down one of the league’s better offenses. Her chemistry with Dallas’ frontcourt has given the Wings a physical identity on both ends of the floor. Her versatility allows head coach Jose Fernandez to use her as a rebounder, ball-handler, and offensive facilitator, making her one of the most unique forwards in the league.
A Perfect Fit Alongside Dallas’ Young Stars
The Wings have built an exciting core around players such as Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, but Shepard’s veteran presence has been equally important.
Her passing and basketball IQ help maximize the talents of Dallas’ young guards, while her willingness to do the dirty work allows the team’s scorers to flourish. The balance between Shepard’s experience and the young talent around her has become a major reason for Dallas’ strong start.
Looking Like One of the Best Free-Agent Signings of the Year
Dallas signed Shepard, expecting a reliable starter. Instead, they may have landed one of the best bargains of the offseason. With multiple triple-doubles already, dominant rebounding performances, and a growing leadership role, Shepard has quickly become one of the most valuable players on the Wings roster. Sheppard is averaging 13 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game on 56.8% shooting from the field.
