How the Chicago Sky can Make WNBA History

The Chicago Sky are headed back to the WNBA semifinals. Chicago upset the third seeded Minnesota Lynx 89-76 and now travel east to take on the Connecticut Sun. The best of five series starts Tuesday. This will be Chicago’s first trip to the semifinals since 2016, where they lost to now Sky player Candace Parker, and the Los Angeles Sparks, who went on to win the championship.

Chicago will be faced with a tough task in the Connecticut Sun. The Sun are on a 14-game winning streak heading into Tuesday’s game. Also, they have the best home record in the WNBA at 15-1. Connecticut will be led by MVP candidate Jonquel Jones and two-time WNBA champion and four-time WNBA All-Star DeWanna Bonner.

During the season, The Sun topped the league in team defense. In order for the Sky to take the series, they must get a big scoring punch from Parker.

Inn the last two postseason games, Parker has averaged only 9.5 points per game while shooting 33% from the floor. She also hasn’t made a single 3-point shot in her last three games.

The match-up between the Sky and the Sun may be a little personal for Parker as well. Connecticut has eliminated Parker from the playoffs in the past two seasons. Connecticut Sun also ended the Sky’s playoff run in 2020.

The Sky is trying to become the lowest seed ever to advance to the WNBA Finals. To make that happen, they will need to play almost perfectly, and have a lot of luck.
