Carter is Calm Amongst The Storm

Chennedy Carter, or how many know her by the name Hollywood. She is only a rookie out of Texas A&M University although she gave up her senior season to declare for the WNBA draft. Despite her age and little experience in the league, Carter does not shy away despite a challenge. Carter is calm amongst the Storm, now let us talk about it.

Collegiate Career

Ever since Hollywood has been a freshman at A&M, she has always been a stand out player. During her freshman year, she received the National Freshman of the Year Award, with unanimous votes. She also received many SEC awards such as SEC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-SEC along with many more honors. Carter went on to be apart of the All-SEC team for the rest of her career at A&M. Despite only having three seasons as a college athlete, Carter ended up in 2nd in all-time leading scoring with 1,983 points. She played a very determined and has a fearless attitude. She demonstrated her fearlessness during her time at A&M even during her freshman year. Carter has a game beyond many levels during her college career that prepared her for the big leagues, the WNBA.

WNBA Start

Despite only have played six games, Carter is off to a great WNBA start. Carter is averaging 17.4 PPG, 2.4 RPG, and 4.0 APG. The Atlanta Dream lost some key players due to opting out, which allowed Chennedy to step up to the plate as being a leader in scoring and off the court. Hollywood really broke out of her shell in her 6th game against high-ranked, Seattle Storm. Carter is calm amongst the Seattle Storm and had a breakout game.

Chennedy Carter balled out against the Storm. She was fearless in this game, going up against the highly talented Storm who has key players like Jewell Loyd, Jordin Canada, and Breanna Stewart. She plays as if she has been in this league for years, whereas she has only experienced a few games thus far. Carter dished out 7 assists, which is a huge deal for this Dream team. The Dream needed a strong guard after players like Hayes and Montgomery opted out. Hollywood also dropped 35, her career as well as season-high thus far. Carter can create her own shots like no tomorrow and is deadly from everywhere. Watch out because Chennedy Carter is in town.

Game Recognizes Game

2018 ROY and Las Vegas Ace, A’ja Wilson took to Twitter to express how impressed she was with Carter’s gameplay. Carter is only a rookie on paper, but on the court, she looks like a veteran with years of experience. Her plays and ability to stretch the floor are deadly. Even talented players like Wilson acknowledge Carter’s talent after playing her in both colleges and now the WNBA.

A Stand-Out Rookie

Even with little time on the clock, Carter still seeks to contribute to the team. With only being down by 4 points, Carter knew she could bring the score closer and potentially tie the game if she made a three, then was fouled. Although this shot did not win the Dream the game, the shot proved that Carter was a deadly weapon and a draft steal for the Dream. The basket made this game only a one-point game with the help of Carter’s talent and ability to shoot.

In a post-game mini-interview, Holly Rowe talked to the stand-out rookie, Chennedy Carter. Carter expressed her excitement and joy of being in the WNBA. Carter’s confidence in herself and her teammates makes her stand out against opponents. As Holly Rowe mentions, the WNBA has a bright future with Chennedy Carter. Carter is calm against the Storm and seems prepared to have more games like this in the future.

About Aislyn Jowers

I've grown up going to NCCAW games, when Tiffany Mitchell was drafted to the Indiana Fever in 2016 it opened the doors to the WNBA for me. Ever since then, I have been an avid watcher of both the WNBA and NCAAW games. Instead of bothering my family and friends with my thoughts about the game, I decided I will write about it instead.
