Candace Parker Says Goodbye to LA

After spending 13 years’ in Los Angeles Candace Parker is headed to the mid-west after signing a deal with the Chicago Sky, however, it’s not official until Feb. 1st. The announcement was reported by Ramona Shelburne of ESPN today, however, it was first reported by Nick Niendorf of The Next yesterday early afternoon. Parker who is a two-time MVP and WNBA Champion will return to the city where her basketball career started. Candace who grew up in Naperville Illinois attended Naperville Central High School; where she won two State Championships before attending the University of Tennessee. Candace Parker Says Goodbye

The departure of Parker took many WNBA fans by surprise as many thought she would continue and ultimately end her career in Los Angeles. Parker who was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick to Los Angeles in 2008; would become the only player in league history to win MVP and Rookie of the Year in the same season.

Chicago adding Parker to an already established roster consisting of Allie Quigley, Courtney Vandersloot, and Diamond DeShields will certainly boost them to championship contenders.

After an injury-plagued season in 2019; Parker proved that she still is an elite player in the WNBA. Inside the bubble, Parker averaged 14.7 ppg while shooting a career-high 40% from 3; while shooting over 50% from the floor. Parker would also shine on the defensive end leading the league in defensive rebounds as a result; she would go on and win her first DPOY award.

Candace Parker will leave the Sparks as LAs second All-time leading scorer behind Lisa Leslie. And WNBA Champion and two-time MVP.
