A Strong Finish in Week Two of AU Softball

Heading into the halfway point of Season Three of AU Softball, this season has been fun to watch. In this case, we’ve seen familiar faces play as expected while some unfamiliar ones make a name for themselves. So, without further ado, let’s recap games eleven and twelve of AU Softball Season Three.

Game Eleven: Hot bats lead Team Mulipola to a 13–8 win over Team Harshman

For the most part, Dejah Mulipola’s squad dominated Week Two, winning all three games. The 13 runs scored were the most by any team this week, starting with an RBI single by Amanda Chidester in the first inning. Next, Mulipola’s team added six runs to the board in the second inning. Chidester, Aubrey Leach, Erika Piancastelli and Sam Fischer each had an RBI as Mulipola hit a two-run RBI single.

Once again, Mulipola helped her own cause in the third inning with two RBIs on a double. The catcher was the MVP 3 for her performance at the dish.

However, Piancastelli hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, giving Mulipola’s team their final four runs. What’s more, the bases-clearing homer by Piancastelli is only the third (one) hit in AU Softball season play. Needless to say, the member of the Italian National Team was the game’s MVP 1 with her five-RBI performance.

Although Kelsey Harshman’s team came up short, they got a pair of RBIs from Sydney Romero and Taylor Edwards. Romero knocked in two runs, a double to right center field as Edwards hit one over the wall. Edwards earned MVP 2 honors for efforts at the plate.  Also, Megan Wiggins and Edwards added an RBI each in the fifth. Lastly, Tori Vidales hit a two-run shot to left-center field in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.

Game Twelve: Team Jaquish starts off hot in victory over Team Eberle 6-2

In the final game of Week Two, Sahvanna Jaquish’s team decided to put an end to the game rather quickly. Jaquish’s squad put up four runs in the first inning off two wild pitches and two RBIs from Jazmyn Jackson. What’s more, Jackson was given MVP 2 honors for her efforts.

Correspondingly, the runs were scored by Amanda Lorenz and Hannah Flippen. Lorenz won MVP 1 for her performance. Entering the fifth inning, Janae Jefferson had an RBI single while Lorenz hit an RBI single for Team Jaquish.

On the other side, Mia Davidson slammed her second homer of the week in the second inning for Carrie Eberle’s team. In addition, Shannon Rhodes hit a home run as well in the seventh as she took home MVP honors.

Captains for Week Three

As a result, we’ll have two returning captains from Week Two in Mulipola and Jaquish, while Chidester and Haylie McCleney rounds out the list. It’s important to note that Chidester was a captain back in Week One. Let’s see how Week Three fares for these captains in a race to crown a champion.
