The Indiana Fever started the season 2-7. Interim general manager Lin Dunn has decided to move from head coach Marianne Stanley. Assistant coach Carlos Knox will step in as the interim head coach.

“With this new group of players, it is time for our organization to go in a different direction,” Fever interim general manager Lin Dunn said in a press release. “This was a difficult decision, and we wish Marianne the very best in the future.”

Stanley was in the third and final season of her contract and had a record of 14-49. “I want to thank the Simon family and the Fever organization for the opportunity to lead this team over the past two and a half years,” Stanley added in the press release. “I look forward to the next chapter in my basketball journey, as well as being able to spend more time with my family.”

Knox was a D-II college basketball player at UT Martin and IUPUI. He was the D-II scoring champion in 1997 and 1998. Knox also won D-II Player of the Year in 1998. Knox played with the Indiana Pacers during the 1998-99 season. Also, he played for eight years in Croatia, Germany, Venezuela, and Italy.

Knox has 20 years of coaching experience and this is his second stint with Indiana. He was with the Fever back in 2014 to 2016; Knox was the player development coach and his first coaching stint was with his alma mater; ahead of the 2001-02 season, Knox served as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Before returning to the Fever, Knox was an assistant coach at Cincinnati.

Knox worked as an assistant coach with the University of North Texas women’s program from 2017-20 and San Diego State in 2011. Additionally, Knox coached in several leagues, working as a head coach in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC), the International Basketball League (USA), the Continental Basketball Association (USA) and the American Basketball Association (USA).

As you can see, Knox has a lot of coaching experience. So, he will be tasked to get the Fever on the right track. In addition, Knox will need to get the Fever to play better on defense. Plus, get the best of all the rookies Indiana drafted this year.
