UConn Beats Texas 83-76

UConn Texas

The Connecticut women’s basketball team got a massive 83- 76 win over Texas. Connecticut came into the game ranked No.3 and UConn No.5. The Longhorns led after the first quarter 19-18, but the Huskies had a solid second and third quarter, and they held to the victory, even though they lost the fourth quarter 25-20.

Connecticut’s Azzi Fudd led all scorers with a career-high 32 points on 13-21 shooting from the field. Fudd also shot 4-7 from three-point land. With Paige Bueckers being out, it is up to Fudd to step up, and that is what she did on Monday night against Texas. The Sophmore also added four assists.

Aubrey Griffin added 14 points off the bench, while Lout Lopez-Senechal scored 12 points. Aaliyah Edwards grabbed gith rebound to go along with her 11 points. Nika Muhl and Dorka Juhasz did the little things to help the Huskies get the victory. Muhl dished out nine assists and had three steals, while Juhasz grabbed nine rebounds, four, assist and four steals. Of course, it would help if you played like Muhl and Juhasz to be successful.

UConn did a great job rebounding; they outrebounded Texas 34-26. All the other stats were close to being even, but rebounding and Azzi were the difference in the game.

Sonya Morris led Texas in scoring with 21 points, but it was not enough to beat UConn, while Shaylee Gonzales struggled from the field, shooting 2-8 from the field and 1-6 from beyond the arc. However, she did dish out six assists.

The Longhorns did get 27 points from their bench, led by Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda’s 13 points and Taylor Jones’s ten points. However, Texas fought hard to the end, and they did play without their starting point guard Rori Harmon.

It was an impressive early win for Connecticut, it is still a long way to go, but they are off on the right track. Let’s see if they can keep it up throughout the season.

  1. You mentioned that Texas played without their starting point guard but you failed to mention that UConn is missing who could be the best player in the country, Paige Bueckers.
