Storm Beat Liberty

Yesterday was the kickoff to the WNBA season. There were three action-packed games back to back. Fans, analysts, and superstar players from other leagues poured out support for the WNBA players. The season started with the Seattle Storm versus the New York Liberty. The Storm beat the Liberty 87 to 71.

The Seattle Storm

Throughout the season-opening game, the Seattle Storm dominated the New York Liberty. They outscored them three out of four quarters. The Storm leading ladies are the following; Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird. Breanna Stewart led the Storm in points and rebounds. In the 28 minutes that Stewart played, she scored 18 points and had eight rebounds. Sue Bird led the Storm in assist. Within 19 minutes, she had five assists. Honorable mention for yesterday’s victory was Jewell Loyd. Loyd was the second lead scorer with 14 points.

New York Liberty

The New York Liberty has a lot of promise this year. Analysts saw tons of promise after the draft. Liberty still has a lot of potential and they played with heart until the end. The leading ladies for the Liberty are the following; Layshia Clarendon, Kiah Stokes, and Sabrina Ionescu. Layshia Clarendon led the Liberty in points. Clarendon played for 32 minutes and within those 32 minutes, she scored 20 points. Kiah Stokes led in rebounds. Stokes played for 28 minutes and had nine rebounds. Sabrina Ionescu led in assist. Ionescu played for 34 minutes and had four assists.

With all eyes on the 2020 first-round first pick, Sabrina Ionescu played pretty well. After the Storm beat the Liberty, the Storm will continue their journey to face the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday at 10 pm EST. The Liberty has to continue to improve on defense. However, they need to get ready to take on the Dallas Wings Tuesday at 8 pm EST.
