Stanford Reloading for Next Year

Stanford

Stanford beat Arizona on Sunday night 54-53 in the women’s NCAA finals and won their third championship. It was the Pac-12 first championship since 1992 when Stanford won. Next year the Cardinal will be adding more talent to a talented roster.

With Haley Jones, Cameron Brink, and Hull sisters due to come back, Stanford will bring in three talented newcomers from California.

Brooke Demetre 6-3 Wing Mater Dei Class: 2021

Demetre is a versatile frontcourt player that could also play out on the wing. She can shoot out on the perimeter and can even play the stretch-four position. Along with her shooting ability, Demetre can also create her own shot and can defend multiple positions. Demetre is committed to going to Stanford next year.

Jzaniya Harriel 5-10 PG Antelope High School Class:2021

Harriel is a scoring point guard; she scored 25.9 points per game last year at Antelope. She also grabbed 10.4 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game. Harriel is quick off the dribble, can create her own shot, and can shoot the three. She shot 43% from the field and 36% from beyond the arc last year. Harriel led California is points scored with 797. She will also be headed to Stanford next year.

Okikiola Iriafen 6-2 F Harvard Westlake Class:2021

Iriafen is from court player with the ability to play with finesse and power. She also can knock mid-range jumpers with her soft touch. Iriafen is another inside player that can grab the rebound and start the fast break. The forward’s presence in that paint on defense, Iriafen, will be a huge addition to the Stanford basketball team.

Stanford will have a very talented roster next year and could very well repeat significantly if Haley Jones can develop more on outside shooting; if Jones can hit the three consistently, she could be unstoppable. With the young group of freshmen coming in, Stanford is set for the next few years.
