Santa Clara Lady Broncos beat San Diego 66-57

Behind Tess Heal’s 30 points, the Santa Clara Lady Broncos won their seventh game in a row with a 66-57 victory over San Diego on the road Thursday night.

The Lady Broncos trailed 14-12 early in the first quarter before they went on a 9-2 run to close the quarter to take a 21-16 lead at the end of one. Santa Clara started the second quarter on a 10-2 run and went into halftime with a 36-24 lead.

In the third quarter, the Lady Broncos got their lead up to 16 points, but midway through the quarter, San Diego went 10-0 to trim the lead to six. Santa Clara scored the last five points to close the quarter and took a 50-39 lead into the final period.

The final quarter was a quarter of the runs. San Diego scored the first five points of the quarter. After the Lady Broncos went on 6-0 rin, followed by 9-0 by the Toreros, but the Lady Broncos held a 58-54 lead. Santa Clara went on to outscore San Diego 8-3 to close the game.

Both teams shot under 40% from the field; their nine three-pointers kept the game close for San Diego.

Heal had her third game in a row with at least 24 points or more. She shot 11-19 from the field and added eight rebounds and four assists. Marya Hudgins was the only Lady Bronco to score in double figures with ten points.

Santa Clara is now 22-7 overall and 10-4 in WCC play. The Lady Broncos return to action Thursday against LMU for Senior night.
