San Diego Wave Unveil Crest and Colors

San Diego Wave Fútbol Club, one of two expansion teams set to begin to play in the 2022 National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) season which begins in March, unveiled its crest and colors officially for the first time.


Among those present were San Diego Wave president Jill Ellis, head coach Casey Stoney, defender Abby Dahlkemper (the team’s first-ever signing), and all-world striker Alex Morgan who signed on Tuesday. The event was held at Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla, CA with the presence of media. And civic leaders including representatives from San Diego State University.


“We are thrilled to unveil our colors and crest that have been inspired by San Diego’s beauty, its culture, and the sheer power of the Pacific Ocean,” said Club President Jill Ellis. “We are confident that our players and fans near and far will enjoy wearing our crest and colors while proudly representing and supporting San Diego Wave Fútbol Club.”

The crest, encased in a shield, is a symbol of strength, for the city and team, to proudly stand behind. A powerful wave, cresting in the rich blues of the Pacific Ocean, sits front and center as the iconic mark of Wave FC. And under the proud banner of the city’s name; are the vivid colors of the horizon, celebrating the beauty, fun, and vibrant culture of the city and its people.


In addition to unveiling its club crest; Wave FC announced today that Snapdragon Stadium will serve as its permanent home after the scheduled opening in Sept. 2022. The team will begin play at its temporary home, Torero Stadium at the University of San Diego, in March 2022.

Snapdragon Stadium, located in the heart of Mission Valley, is a state-of-the-art, multi-use facility designed to create an electric, San Diego-first atmosphere for Wave FC fans. The stadium will serve as a sport, entertainment, civic. And cultural landmark is centrally located within San Diego, and provide great field-viewing options from anywhere within the venue. “Today marks another great milestone in the development of Snapdragon Stadium as we announce a partnership with Wave FC that will bring the best women’s soccer in the world to our brand new, state-of-the-art stadium,” said SDSU Athletic Director JD Wicker.
