Aliyah Boston Continues to Make History

Aliyah Boston suited up for the South Carolina Gamecocks to play against the Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday night. The Gamecocks, of course, wanted to win the game and clinch the outright SEC regular-season title for the Gamecocks. Yet another goal in mind for the team was for Boston to make history with 20 straight double-doubles. Both goals were accomplished, the Gamecocks defeated the Aggies by a score of 89-48, and to top it off, Boston made history yet again.

Against the Volunteers

On Sunday afternoon, the Gamecocks defeated the Volunteers, a monumental day since College Gameday came to a women’s basketball game for the first time since 2011. Boston tied the SEC record with WNBA great Sylvia Fowles for consecutive double-doubles, 19 to be exact. Her 16 points and 12 rebounds helped her tie with Fowles. Not only did Boston break the school record of 10 straight double-doubles, but she keeps building on it now, creating a new SEC program record of 20.

Against the Aggies

Versus the Aggies, Boston had 18 pts and 10 rebounds. This secured her 20th consecutive double-double, creating a new record since Fowles for LSU during the 2006-07 season. As only a junior, Boston is making her case for national awards such as National Player of the Year. Even coaches such as Kellie Harper are saying that Boston deserves all the awards she is expected to get. The Gamecocks only have one regular-season game left on Sunday. Then, they will head to Oxford to face Ole Miss as Boston looks to extend her streak to 21 there.

What to Expect

Next week, the SEC Tournament will tip-off in Nashville, where the Gamecocks will look to get their seventh tournament championship. This would be their seventh in the last eight years. The last time the Gamecocks were in Nashville, they ended up winning the tournament and then the National Championship, which seems like another one is on the horizon for them this year. Predicted as a No. 1 seed for the NCAA tournament, especially if both SEC titles are clinched, the Gamecocks are among the top contenders for the championship.

Coming off of an SEC regular-season championship, the competition will look to beat the Gamecocks. And with how well Boston has been playing, this will be hard to do. Boston is currently leading the Gamecocks with 16.8 PPG, 11.9 RPG, 1.4 AST, and 2.7 BLK. Aliyah is certainly going to continue to make history.

About Aislyn Jowers

I've grown up going to NCCAW games, when Tiffany Mitchell was drafted to the Indiana Fever in 2016 it opened the doors to the WNBA for me. Ever since then, I have been an avid watcher of both the WNBA and NCAAW games. Instead of bothering my family and friends with my thoughts about the game, I decided I will write about it instead.
