A’ja vs. Stewie Matchup

A'ja

The WNBA Finals starts tomorrow, the number one seeded Las Vegas Aces will face the second-seeded Seattle Storm. This game will be the first game in a series of five to determine who will be the 2020 WNBA Champions. The Aces have the 2020 MVP A’ja Wilson and the Storm have 2018 MVP and 2020 MVP nominee, Breanna “Stewie” Stewart. These two are both amazing players who have helped bring their teams to the finals. Let’s take a look into this A’ja vs. Stewie Matchup.

A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces

A’ja Wilson is only in her third year in the WNBA but has stepped up to the plate and played like a veteran for her team. The Aces did not qualify for the playoffs in her rookie season when she won Rookie of the Year. Last year the Aces qualified and played in the playoffs but fell short to the Mystics in the semifinals. This year the Aces earned the number one seed in the playoffs and defeated the Sun 3-2 in the semifinals to head to the finals.

Wilson has been a huge player during her MVP season. While playing great defense and being a huge threat on offense she is averaging 20.5 PPG, 2.0 BLK, 8.5 RPG, 2.0 AST, and 1.2 STL. Wilson’s jump shot has been a huge part of her offense game and has the ability to score despite being doubled and tripled team. Her defense has been huge from blocking shot to getting rebounds her defense is another vital aspect of her game. A’ja will for sure come to play in tomorrow’s matchup against Stewie and the Storm.

Breanna Stewart of the Seattle Storm

Stewie is in her fourth season of the WNBA after having to sit out last year due to an Achilles injury. During her 2018 season, she won both MVP titles and led her team to the championship. After dealing with on and off knee issues this season, Stewie came back better than ever for the playoffs. She helped lead the team both when she was playing and on the bench to the second overall seed. The Storm defeated the Lynx in the semifinals with a 3-0 game series.

Stewie has been a huge player for her team during her comeback season. Stewart is currently averaging 19.7 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 3.6 AST, 1.7 STL, and 1.3 BLK. Breanna is a huge offensive threat and defensive threat. She can crash the boards and get rebounds as well as get the ball to her teammates. She also can shoot the three with a 45% three-point shot. Stewie will totally come to play tomorrow in hopes of defeating the Aces and A’ja Wilson.

Prediction

I predict the Aces will take Game 1 in the finals series. The Storm haven’t played since Sunday, September 27th, despite the much-needed break, the Aces are in a flow. The Aces last played on Tuesday so they will have to play through fatigue but have played more recently. I believe in the A’ja and Stewie Matchup that both players will be the most impactful for both teams, but anyone can win this game or this series.

About Aislyn Jowers

I've grown up going to NCCAW games, when Tiffany Mitchell was drafted to the Indiana Fever in 2016 it opened the doors to the WNBA for me. Ever since then, I have been an avid watcher of both the WNBA and NCAAW games. Instead of bothering my family and friends with my thoughts about the game, I decided I will write about it instead.
