A chat with Taj Cole

Last week I got to interview Taj Cole. We talked about AU hoops, WNBA, and fashion! The conversation was easy and felt more like a chat with Taj Cole.

Taj was a stand-out earlier this year in Las Vegas for the inaugural Athletes Unlimited basketball season. And that’s when I really started to pay close attention to this superstar. I instantly noticed Taj was a floor general. She is a natural at directing plays, making killer passes, and scoring at will.

Athletes Unlimited Stats

Taj finished in the top ten during the AU season. She averaged 16.9 points, 6 assists, and 1.7 steals. With these kinds of stats, it came as no surprise that she earned a training camp contract with Curt Miller and the Connecticut Sun.

Taj on Connecticut and fashion

I asked Taj what’s the most challenging thing about training camp. She chuckled as she responded, “Finding food after practice.” She then explained that the basketball part of training camp comes naturally. Saying, “It’s easy we’re just competing.” Next, we talked about how she feels about Connecticut overall. She explained that while basketball is her main focus, she has enjoyed her time exploring the area.

Next, we talked about fashion. During the five-week AU season, Taj got some looks off! I asked Taj if she was a sneakerhead or a fly guy? She said both(which I knew and 100% agreed with)!! Taj has a clothing brand on the way, which she will launch with a hat collection. She plans to bring it out this summer, and she is super excited about it.

Lastly, we talked about Destanni Henderson‘s draft day shoe. The shoe gave Taj dunk vibes, and she wants to see more of that in the tunnel this season.

This season, I plan to cover the Connecticut Sun fully. From draft day to the last second of their season. Check back weekly for Sun stories and follow along on our Instagram page. This is the 20th season for the Connecticut Sun, so expect great content! Tune into the 2022 season starting on May 6th.
