This month many WNBA teams have been busy between free agency and getting new ownership. The Las Vegas Aces is one of these teams that have been busy during the offseason so far. The Aces fell short in the WNBA Finals in October, now in 2021, the Aces are looking forward to playing again. Not only do the Aces now have a new owner but have re-signed and cored key-players. This is a New Year and Big News for the Aces.
New Ownership
On Jan. 14th, the Las Vegas Aces announced that they are in the process of having a new owner. George Kliavkoff, President of Entertainment & Sports, MGM Resorts International, announced that he is in an agreement to sell the team to Mark Davis. Davis is the current owner of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders and now will own the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces.
This is a huge deal for the Aces as they will most likely play in a new arena. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert states, “Mark Davis has been a huge supporter of the WNBA and women’s basketball, and we look forward to learning about his vision for the team during the upcoming league approval process”. Liz Cambage is Cored
According to sources telling Winsidr’s Rachel Galligan, the Las Vegas Aces have cored center, Liz Cambage. The WNBA states each “team has exclusive negotiating rights with one core player“. The Aces will be able to negotiate Cambage’s contract before the beginning of the 2021 season. Cambage sat out of the 2020 WNBA season due to COVID-19 concerns.
During the 2019 season, Cambage averaged 15.9 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 2.1 APG, and 1.6 BPG. Standing tall at 6’8, Liz is a tall center that is a huge asset for the Aces. The Aces made their first playoff run for their franchise in 2019 with the help of Cambage. With her return in 2021, the Aces could make yet another run to the WNBA Finals. Cambage alongside 2020 MVP, A’ja Wilson, is a crazy good duo that leads this team. This news about Cambage’s future with the Aces is a large part of the New Year and Big News for the Aces.

Re-Signed Lindsay Allen
On top of all this great news, the announcement of re-signing guard Lindsay Allen broke. Allen played for the Aces during their first season in franchise history and came back after injury for the 2020 season. During this time she averaged 3.3 PPG, 2.4 APG, and 1.1 RPG. Although her stats do not appear to be impactful, her presence on the court is known when she is playing. She has the ability to shoot the three and lead the team at the point guard position. This news of re-signing Allen is a large part of the New Year and Big News for the Aces.

Re-Signed Emma Cannon
Yet another player was re-signed for the Aces, forward Emma Cannon. Cannon joined the team right before the playoffs. She was a huge part of this team in the playoffs, especially after Sixth Woman of the Year, Dearica Hamby, became injured. Cannon averaged 3.8 PPG and 2.2 RPG while shooting 50% from the field. Despite joining the team late in the season, Cannon’s presence on the floor helped the Aces make a long playoff run into the finals. She was able to crash the boards and help the Aces especially during times of need. This news of re-signing Cannon is a large part of the New Year and Big News for the Aces.
