Young talent Dominique Malonga is making a name for herself in Unrivaled history by becoming only the second player to dunk during a game. She finished with 21 points, leading her team, the Breeze, to victory over the Lunar Owls with a score of 75-68 on Saturday. Witnessing a basketball player dunk in a game is thrilling and exciting, whether in the NBA or the WNBA, but it’s especially rare in the WNBA. The fans at Unrivaled were treated to an incredible moment that was celebrated by everyone in attendance as well as those watching the game on television.
Malonga had this to say about the special moment:
“I was happy to feel the love from the whole arena,” Malonga said. “Everybody was so hyped; it was a great moment. I’m not really expressive on the court, so I know that I didn’t show a lot, but yeah, it was blowing my mind, actually.”
Here is the moment when Malonga performed a dunk during the game:
Dominique’s former head coach, Noelle Quinn from the Seattle Storm, said this about the incredible moment:
“I see [Malonga] dunk every single day, so it’s not a surprise to me anymore,” Breeze BC Head Coach Noelle Quinn said of the historic moment, “But to finally get that done in a game is…I love it for her, because I think now that was just the beginning. Now you’ll see a lot more of it.”
The 6’6 center has a promising future in professional basketball, both with Unrivaled and in the WNBA. In her recent game, Malonga recorded eight rebounds, one steal, and one block, shooting 9-for-16 from the field. She was the second-best performer for the Breeze, trailing only superstar Paige Bueckers, who scored 28 points. As a first-round pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, Malonga had a solid rookie year with the Seattle Storm. Last season, she played 42 games, averaging 7.7 points and 4.6 total rebounds per game.
The games will take place over the weekend, beginning on Friday and concluding on Monday night.
The games will be broadcast on TNT and truTV. Check the schedule for times and dates.
