UConn Victorious In First Game Of 2026 Over Seton Hall

Looking at the UConn Huskies, 2025 saw them take home their fourth consecutive National Championship and No. 12 overall.  Also, they started the year going 14-0 with wins over teams like Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and Iowa. With the calendar turning to 2026, UConn looked to remain perfect versus Seton Hall on Saturday in Hartford, Connecticut.

The first quarter saw the Huskies take a 19-11 lead as Azzi Fudd hit two-three pointers and one from Allie Ziebell. As for the second quarter, it was all UConn as the defending National Champions outscored Seton Hall by a 19-7 margin. Fudd, Sarah Strong, and KK Arnold accounted for 15 of those points for UConn. UConn took a 38-18 lead into the half.

What’s more, they picked up where they left off in quarter number three. The Huskies went 10-16 (62.5%) from the field as the Pirates shot 27.5% (3-11). Although Seton Hall scored 22 points to UConn’s 17 in the final quarter, it was not enough. Geno Auriemma and the Huskies got the 84-48 win and remains undefeated at 15-0. Junior guards Jordana Colio and Savannah Catalon led Seton Hall in scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

For the Huskies, five players scored in double figures as Strong scored 18 points with eight rebounds while going 2-4 from beyond the arc. Fudd notched 16 points, with 12 points coming from three-point range.

Ziebell went 4-6 from the three-point line, accounting for all 12 of her points. Sophomore center Jana El Alfy scored 10 points off the bench in 17 minutes of action. In total, 33 of the 84 points came via the bench.

More Big East Play For UConn

Ahead of their matchup versus Notre Dame on Jan. 19, the Huskies will face three more conference opponents. UConn will host St. John’s in Hartford on Jan. 7, travel to Omaha, Nebraska on Jan. 11 to face Creighton, and back home to Gampel Pavilion on Jan. 15 against Villanova.
