The Stellar Bats and Pitching Rolls On In The AUSL

As the action continues during the third series of the AUSL, all four teams are looking to separate themselves. One matchup saw the top two teams in the league in a battle while the other featured a great pitching effort. That being said, here is a recap of Games 15 and 16 of the inaugural AUSL season,

Game 15: A Comeback For The Ages In AUSL

In this game, the Bandits and Talons, arguably the top two squads in the league, faced off at Wilkins Stadium. Over the first five innings, the lone run came from an RBI single by Sierra Sacco in the bottom of the second for the Talons. Here, Lexi Kilfoyl of the Bandits and Megan Faraimo for the Talons held the opposing bats at bay early on. However, the final two frames saw the action pick up.

The Bandits pulled ahead with a three-run home from Erin Coffel and an RBI from Sydney McKinney in the top of the sixth. With the Talons down 4-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, the bats needed to dig in at the plate. First, Ally Shipman-Shrout made it a 4-3 game with a two-run shot to right field. Sharlize Palacios stepped up to the dish with a runner on first base and two outs.

Ultimately, Palacios hit the game-winner over the center field wall, giving the Talons the 5-4 win. Now, each team sits with a record of 5-2 as they will face once again on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm ET/ Noon CT.

Game 16: A Dominant Charge In The Circle At Wilkins Stadium

All things considered, the Blaze and its offense saw the flames put out by one of softball’s best arms in right-hander Rachel Garcia. The lone run allowed by Garcia was a solo homer from Kayla Kowalik in the top of the fifth inning. For the Volts, the offense began with an RBI double by Sierra Romero in the first. Afterwards, Danieca Coffey slammed a three-run homer in the second as Romero added another RBI in the fifth.

Lastly, Coffey drove in another run while Amanda Lorenz hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, closing out the offense. The 6-1 victory for the Volts was win No. 3 as the loss dropped the Blaze to 1-6, but plenty of softball left. Back to Garcia, she went all seven innings, allowing four hits, the one run, and striking out nine. Each team will face off at 3:30 ET/2:30 CT in a game that was suspended.
