NWSL: Boston Legacy FC Made Inaugural Attendance History

The NWSL season opener was on March 13 and the expansion team Boston Legacy FC made its debut on March 14. The Legacy debuted versus the defending champions, Gotham FC. Unfortunately, their debut wasn’t what they expected. Boston lost 1-0 to Gotham in a thrilling match that made history. One history is marked by the largest inaugural home opener in league history, with 30,207 attendees at Gillette Stadium. Thirty thousand fans cheered for the expansion team regardless of the loss.

During the match between Boston and Gotham, a new league record was set with nine yellow cards issued. This is the highest number of yellow cards given in a single match. The game was intense, with Boston receiving more yellow cards than Gotham, and a red card was issued during the match.

Women’s soccer is rapidly growing, which was perfectly showcased. The NWSL now has 16 teams after adding two: Boston Legacy FC and Denver Summit FC. Once again, women’s sports made history; whether it is women’s basketball or soccer, the fans are here to stay and support the ladies. It’s astounding how women’s sports captivate the fans’ attention, especially for women’s soccer. It is incredible that the NWSL now has 16 teams.

Not too long ago, the league only had eight teams. This means eight teams have been added in just a few years.
